To design a sustainable new building and landscape that is a living expression of the stewardship mission of the Watershed District.

The building design houses offices and public spaces in a simple, cost effective building that is naturally daylit and ventilated. Inspired by the 52 square mile basin of the watershed district, the outer two building roofs slope toward the center roof which in turn directs the runoff into a runnel pouring the water into a rain garden sculpture as a highly visible demonstration of water flow. Surrounding the building are rain gardens that infiltrate the runoff from hardsurfaces and roofs. The green roof on the garage along with other best management practices in water management demonstrate the Watershed's mission. Exceeding code, the buildings shell and mechanical system are designed to include strategies with a 10 year or less payback.
